Moazzam fell ill with Covid in October 2020, and was in hospital with for 4,5 months, including 2,5 months in ICU. He moved in with his 80-year-old mother in her ground floor flat after his discharge, because his own home had stairs he could no longer climb. Time of interview April 2021

Laszlo was put into an induced coma because of Covid. When he came out of the coma he was concerned about PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) and depression. However, he has not experienced this. Goutam developed Covid symptoms during the first week of the first national lockdown. He was taken into intensive care after his oxygen levels remained too low. He found the experience disturbing, but his family gave him strength.

Alexander was admitted to hospital with Covid in April 2020. When he continued to deteriorate, he was mechanically ventilated. Having suffered renal failure and an intercranial bleed, Alexander passed away after 22 days in hospital. Elizabeth and their children were present in hospital when he died. Elizabeth works as a nurse. Alexander worked as a network technician. Elizabeth and Alexander were together for 38 years. They have two adult children, one of whom lives close by.
