Laszlo
Laszlo was put into an induced coma because of Covid. When he came out of the coma he was concerned about PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) and depression. However, he has not experienced this. He thinks that this is because he talks openly and shares his experiences with others. Time of interview October 2021

Goutam
Goutam developed Covid symptoms during the first week of the first national lockdown. He was taken into intensive care after his oxygen levels remained too low. He found the experience disturbing, but his family gave him strength.
Goutam is 52 years old and is Indian. He is married and has two children, and works in IT implementation management.
Mike
Mike's wife Veronica was admitted to intensive care with Covid 19 in January 2021. The month that Veronica relied on a ventilator for survival was the hardest month of Mike's life. Melanie
Rhod was admitted to hospital in April 2020, and later transferred to the ICU unit where Melanie works. Rhod deteriorated on respiratory support (CPAP) such that he needed mechanical ventilation. Melanie was with him when he died. Melanie was interviewed for the study in December 2021.

Elizabeth
Alexander was admitted to hospital with Covid in April 2020. When he continued to deteriorate, he was mechanically ventilated. Having suffered renal failure and an intercranial bleed, Alexander passed away after 22 days in hospital. Elizabeth and their children were present in hospital when he died. Interviewed for the study in October 2021.
Elizabeth works as a nurse. Alexander worked as a network technician. Elizabeth and Alexander were together for 38 years. They have two adult children, one of whom lives close by.
Neil
Neil developed symptoms at the end of March 2020. He spent 18 days in the intensive care unit, and a further 5 weeks recovering on the acute medical and general wards. Neil has found his time in hospital the the most life changing months [he] ever had;. Interviewed for the study in October 2021.

Andrew
Andrew was admitted to intensive care early in the pandemic. He was mechanically ventilated for a month. He has received follow-up care from a family member when formal follow-up care was lacking. Interviewed for the study in September 2021.

Shireen & Yacoob
Shireen and Yacoob both contracted Covid19, and both were admitted to hospital. Shireen made a quick recovery. Yacoob spent 6 weeks in intensive care. While they were in hospital their shop was sold, as was their apartment that was above it. Interviewed in September 2021.

George
George was the first patient to survive intensive care with Covid19 at his local teaching hospital. He was mechanically ventilated for 4 weeks. He has sustained permanent damage to his lungs and continues to experience symptoms 18 months after discharge. Interviewed for the study in September 2021.
