Stephanie
Stephanie found out about her HIV status when she got pregnant. Her doctors explained that breastfeeding put the baby at some risk but could be done safely. She tried breastfeeding for a few days but stopped because her breasts were sore and bleeding.

She chose not to breastfeed for the safety of her baby, though culturally this was a difficult decision because in her home country breastfeeding is seen as the healthiest start for a baby, and you can be treated with suspicion if you do not breastfeed.

Lana
Lana was diagnosed in 2019, when she was pregnant with her first child. She formula fed her older child and is currently undecided about how to feed her new baby.

Sinead
Sinead was diagnosed when she was pregnant with her first child. She formula fed both of her children, to avoid any risk of HIV transmission. A local charity has supported her with formula milk.
