Noel

Noel had palpitations but had to see a GP three times before he was diagnosed with AF. He had cardioversion that only lasted a week, and now takes bisoprolol and warfarin. Now in persistent AF, he is disappointed with the delays in care he has experienced.

    George has had AF for 15 years and has experienced two minor strokes. He is unable to take medication to control his blood pressure and had an allergic reaction to warfarin. He continues to have attacks of AF but takes aspirin to minimise stroke risk.

  • Chris Y

    Chris first had symptoms of paroxysmal AF ten years ago, which gradually worsened. However, AF was not detected on an ECG until after Chris had a TIA two years ago. Chris takes warfarin, flecainide, bisoprolol and simvastatin. He exercises regularly.

    Raymond was diagnosed with AF 12 years ago and prescribed digoxin, bisoprolol, and warfarin. A pacemaker was fitted 4 years later after episodes of passing out. He has had no further problems. He eats a healthy diet and does not smoke or drink.

    David was diagnosed with atrial flutter and later developed atrial fibrillation. He has had two cardioversions and a cardio ablation. He currently takes aspirin (but will shortly return to warfarin), plus atorvastatin, bisoprolol, and an ace inhibitor.

    After having food poisoning, Geoff developed IBS, which is thought to have possibly triggered his AF. He was unwell for ten years, has had four ablations, cardioversions and numerous medications. He is now feeling much better and regaining his confidence.

    Freda first noticed symptoms lying in bed at night. She had to visit her GP a number of times before she was referred to a cardiologist. Her AF symptoms got worse after a long chest infection. Freda takes aspirin, plus a statin for high cholesterol.

    David has had paroxysmal AF since 1999. He has had electrocardioversion, chemical cardioversion, and two catheter ablations In the past he has taken bisoprolol, clopidogrel, warfarin and rivaroxaban but now takes apixaban, flecainide and amlodipine.

    An ablation restored sinus rhythm but Maggie still experiences arrhythmia and takes propafenone. Despite having had a minor stroke (TIA), she recently stopped taking aspirin after an intestinal bleed. AF has had a psychological impact on her life.
