Interview 54

Ovarian cancer diagnosed in 1992 following abdominal pain. Treated by surgical removal of ovaries and womb, and chemotherapy. Recurrences treated with further chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Bowel surgery needed to treat blockages.

    Diagnosed with non-small cell lung cancer in 1997, followed by lobectomy (removal of lower and middle lobes of right lung). In 1999 recurrence in right upper lobe, treated with radiotherapy.

    Deirdre was diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia eighteen years ago after developing swollen lymph glands in her neck. She was on watch and wait for three years and has had two courses of oral chemotherapy since. She is currently very well.

    Diagnosed with Hodgkin's disease in 1992 after finding a lump in his armpit. Treated with surgery and radiotherapy. Recurrence treated with chemotherapy and autologous and allogenic stem cell transplants. In remission.

    Diagnosed with cervical cancer in 1997. Colposcopy and laser treatment given initially. From Cone Biopsy initial diagnosis stage 1A1. Six months after treatment, test results re-examined which showed stage of tumour more developed than first thought. Wertheim's hysterectomy. Ovaries not removed.

    She was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukaemia after developing tiredness, aches and pains and weight loss. She was treated with interferon then moved to Glivec (imatinib). Her disease is stable but she regrets that treatment has caused infertility.
