Helen has had simple and complex partial seizures for most of her life but was diagnosed only 14 months before the interview. She is on lamotrigine and her seizures are reasonably well controlled.

Katherine started having seizures at the age of 15 but was conclusively diagnosed with epilepsy at 20. She is on 20ml phenytoin three times and 5 ml Keppra (levetiracetam) twice a day. She has about one seizure a month.

Nick was diagnosed with AVM (Arteriovenous Malformation) at 15 which causes his epilepsy. He had surgery to remove the AVM but still has uncontrolled seizures. He's on levetiracetam, sodium valproate and oxycarbamazapine.

Francesca had her first seizure a couple of years before the interview. It took a year for her to get the diagnosis of atonic drop seizures. Now Francesca has about one seizure a month and she is not on any medication.
