Tom - Interview 14

Tom was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004. He had a mastectomy, chemotherapy and radiotherapy before starting Arimidex. He had no side effects from his treatment and returned to work during his treatment.

    Diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008 and had surgery and radiotherapy before starting tamoxifen. Since his operation he has some swelling in his arm and cannot dig in his allotment the way he used to.

    Diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008. He had first noticed a lump on his breast as a young man, and 5-6 years it had grown again but a sudden growth in size had concerned him. His had a mastectomy, and was treated with radiotherapy and tamoxifen. Treatment was unproblematic but he developed a sarcoma in his wound that had to be drained.

    David was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1999. Initially he had a lumpectomy but required a mastectomy when his tumour was found to be bigger than expected. He then developed a blood clot in his wound that had to be surgically removed. He did not require any chemotherapy or radiotherapy and took tamoxifen for five years.

  • Robert B - Interview 10

    Robert was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008. His treatment included mastectomy, radiotherapy and tamoxifen. His treatment went smoothly although his radiotherapy caused some skin redness and has hot flushes and lethargy taking tamoxifen.

  • Mike - Interview 09

    Mike first noticed a cyst on his left breast in 2006. He was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008. He had a mastectomy, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and tamoxifen. His radiotherapy was ongoing at the time of his interview.

    Stuart was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005. He had a mastectomy, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and (after an anxious struggle) Herceptin. His private health insurance allowed him to have his chemotherapy at home.

  • HGV King - Interview 06

    HGV King was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007. He had a mastectomy and radiotherapy. He was offered reconstructive surgery or a tattooed nipple but chose to have neither. He then had tamoxifen.

  • Eric - Interview 05

    Diagnosed with breast cancer in 2001. He had a mastectomy and 5 or 6 lymph nodes removed. He then had chemotherapy over 6 months, with radiotherapy on 15 days halfway through his treatment. He then had tamoxifen. Later had Arimadex for a short time.
