Christine

Christine was diagnosed with HIV in 2004. Later on when she was considering having children, she sought more information from her clinic.

    Camille had wanted to breastfeed her baby but was not able to do so due to miscommunication and lack of support in the maternity ward.

    Camille is of Black African heritage and works as a nurse. She is in a relationship, and has a 16-year-old child and a nine month old baby.

    Kay wants to breastfeed her baby for the health benefits for the baby and for herself.

  • Background

    Kay describes her ethnicity as White Other and is currently single. She is studying for a masters degree and is pregnant for the first time.

  • Sasha

    Sasha had formula fed her older children. She decided to formula feed her new baby as well due to a lack of UK specific data around HIV transmission through breastmilk.

  • Background

    Sasha is White British and works for a public sector health organisation. She is engaged to her partner, has and has two older children and an 8-month-old baby.

  • Marella

    Marella formula fed her eldest child but is planning to breastfeed her second baby. She read research papers, attended conferences and spoke to her doctors, her husband and her mother to help her make this decision.

  • Background

    Marella is Black British African and works as a drama therapist. She is married, has a two-year-old child, and is currently pregnant. She was born with HIV.
