Mick and Natalie - Interview 30

Mick and Natalie's son sadly died of a brain haemorrhage in 2004, aged 8. He gave the gift of life to three people, who received a kidney, liver and heart valves.

    Linda had diabetes since the age of 22 and had a kidney and pancreas transplant in 2004, aged 44. In 2009, she had blood cancer. She has been well since then and enjoys spending quality time with her grandchildren, cooking and interior design.

    Celia's husband, Deepak, had kidney failure in his early 30s and a kidney transplant in 1995, aged 35. Caring for him before he had a transplant was difficult because his diet was restrictive, he was often exhausted, and they had two small children.

    Maggie donated a kidney to an anonymous recipient in 2007, when she was 62. She recovered well and is keen to raise awareness of living kidney donation. She believes that the NHS should cover the costs incurred by altruistic donors.

    Harmanjit donated a kidney to her father in 2008, when she was 29. He was 68 at the time and faced the prospect of dialysis. Both of them recovered well. Harmanjit is now keen to raise awareness of kidney donation amongst British South Asians.

    Hardev was diagnosed with polycystic kidney disease and faced the prospect of life on dialysis. He had a kidney transplant in 2008, aged 68. The donor was his younger daughter. He is now very well and active in charity work.
