Mark - Interview18

Mark had been feeling ill for five months with urinary problems. After going to A&E in 2009 he saw a urologist who without a detailed explanation performed a dorsal slit. Now, with a diagnosis of cancer he went on to have a total penectomy and subsequent lymphadenectomy.

    When Mick discovered a penile rash his GP treated him for thrush. On seeking a second medical opinion he was referred to hospital where a biopsy revealed the presence of cancerous cells. He underwent a partial penectomy and is still having regular check-ups.

    After a circumcision James noticed a sore area on his penis, he was prescribed various creams over the next two years which were ineffective. A later biopsy in 2011 revealed he had penile cancer. James had surgery to remove the cancerous tissue.

  • Steve - Interview 15

    Steve found an abrasion on his penis. After seeing his GP he was falsely diagnosed with Herpes. His condition did not respond to treatment and he was referred to a dermatologist who diagnosed cancer in 2005. Steve underwent a partial penectomy, reconstructive surgery and removal of lymph nodes.

  • Barry - Interview 01

    Barry found what turned out to be a malignant lump on the side of his penis. After having the lump removed Barry had a successful course of chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Unfortunately the cancer returned a number of years later, and Barry had to undergo further surgery to remove the affected area.

  • Frosty - Interview 13

    Frosty found a lump on his penis. He sought help from his GP and received several referrals before being diagnosed with penile cancer in August 2007. He had surgery to remove the cancerous part of his penis and further surgery to remove lymph nodes from his groin.

    Paul waited almost 2 years before consulting his GP about a large penile growth. Referral to a urologist resulted in surgery to remove the growth. He subsequently developed diabetes and his mobility is restricted. He is now clear of cancer.

  • Colin and Patsy - Interview 11

    Colin underwent a partial penectomy with surgical reconstruction in 2010. The return of the cancer resulted in a total penectomy being carried out. He is currently waiting to have an inguinal lymphadenectomy and a scan to determine the extent of the disease.

    Michael found a small lump on his penis, after delaying action a friend encouraged Michael to seek help. Michael's GP referred him onto a local hospital. Tests revealed the lump was cancerous. Michael went on to have a total penectomy.

  • Tom ' Interview 09

    Tom had some inflammation under his foreskin. Tom went to his GP who prescribed him a variety of creams. Tom's condition got worse. Further tests revealed evidence of cancer. Tom went on to have a circumcision and the affected areas of his penis removed.
