Robert - Interview 27

Robert was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006. Had chemotherapy before his mastectomy and again afterwards. He has also had radiotherapy, tamoxifen, Herceptin and exemestane.

    Diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006, after he noticed some itchiness in his nipple which later started to bleed. Had a mastectomy and was relieved that he did not need chemotherapy or radiotherapy. He took tamoxifen for five years. He had some problems with lymphoedema after his surgery.

    Mohammad was a machine operator in the plastics industry. He is currently unable to work due to illness. He is married and has 4 children. Ethnic background’ Pakistani.

    Diagnosed with breast cancer in his right breast in 2007. He had a radical mastectomy and ancillary node clearance, followed by preventive chemotherapy, radiotherapy, Herceptin and tamoxifen. In consultation with his oncologist, he discontinued taking tamoxifen because of extreme sleepiness and lethargy. He is now taking Arimidex.

    Diagnosed with breast cancer in his right breast in 2009. He had a bilateral mastectomy because there was some evidence of early spread to the left breast. He chose not to have chemotherapy, but did have radiotherapy. He is currently taking tamoxifen.

    Diagnosed with breast cancer in his right breast in 2010 after consulting for pain in his left breast. He had a mastectomy, but did not need radiotherapy or chemotherapy. He is currently taking tamoxifen.

    Diagnosed with breast cancer late in 2007. He had a mastectomy early in 2008, followed by radiotherapy, multiple courses of chemotherapy, and Herceptin.

    Interview 32 is a retired rubber process worker. He is married and has 2 surviving adult children and a daughter who died in her early 30s.

  • John - Interview 33

    John noticed some blood on his shirt and visited his GP. He soon had a minor operation but the growth was benign. 10 years later John noticed a disfigured nipple, and was diagnosed with breast cancer. He underwent radiotherapy, chemotherapy and took tamoxifen and Arimidex. John also had a heart attack.

    Dan was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006. He had a mastectomy, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, Herceptin and tamoxifen. He did not want chemotherapy but was told he had to have chemotherapy to be eligible for Herceptin.

    Derek was eventually diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005 after his GP had been slow to refer him for a mammogram. He had a mastectomy, and chemotherapy, radiotherapy and tamoxifen.

    Was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005. Did not require any further treatment following mastectomy other than tamoxifen.
