George is part of a stroke cohort study. He was invited to join the study through his local hospital where they took his name and then invited him to a meeting. He described himself as being “very happy” to join the study. When he first joined the cohort study, he went to a group meeting every month at his local hospital, but now he goes every 2 months. The questions he is asked are usually related to how his stroke impacts his everyday life and his overall quality of life. Often there is a talk from an expert at the group, which George finds helpful and informative. The hospital organises his transport to and from the hospital.

George thinks he was invited to the cohort study because the researchers are trying to find out what life is like after someone has had a stroke and what interventions they may need to support them whilst they recover. George feels positive about taking part in the study. He likes that there are opportunities to meet other stroke survivors, and he gets to talk about his life and the challenges he has had as a result of his stroke. The researchers often send him information in the post to update him on the progress of the research. He has no concerns regarding taking part in the study and has shared the researchers; information with other stroke survivors who might also be interested in getting involved.
