Interview 38

Testicular cancer (seminoma) diagnosed in 2001; orchidectomy. No secondary tumours found, but one session of just one hour of chemotherapy as an outpatient to prevent recurrence.

    In 1996, a lump was found at top of one leg. A biopsy of the lump led to a diagnosis of testicular cancer (seminoma). Chemotherapy for three months. Had 4 days in hospital for each cycle of chemotherapy.

    Testicular cancer (seminoma) diagnosed in 1997; orchidectomy. In 1998 lymph glands in abdomen and lungs appeared slightly larger than normal, so thoracoscopy, mediastinoscopy, and bronchoscopy to look for secondary tumours; none were found. One chemotherapy treatment to prevent recurrence.

    Testicular cancer (probably teratoma) diagnosed, and secondary abdominal tumour, in 1984. Orchidectomy and 4 cycles of chemotherapy (each cycle three weeks, 1 week in hospital and 2 home), followed by 5 weeks radiotherapy (5 treatments per week). Then surgery to remove abdominal tumour (dead tissue), the appendix and malignant cells near to the appendix.

    Testicular cancer (teratoma) diagnosed in 1995; orchidectomy. Secondary tumours in liver, lungs and abdomen; 10 weeks chemotherapy; then a higher dose of chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant; in 1997 recurrence of a secondary tumour in the neck, which was surgically removed.
