Lara

Lara completed the HPV vaccination programme for girls aged 12 to 13 years when she was in year 8 in 2013. Lara received the Gardasil vaccine which provides protection against cervical cancer and genital warts. She feels that the information leaflet she got at school gave her enough information about the health risks of the papilloma virus and the importance of vaccination.

    Amelia took part in the HPV vaccination programme for girls aged 12 to 13 years in school year 8. Amelia feels that, at 12 years old, she was too young to understand all the health risks of the papilloma virus and about the benefits and limits of the HPV vaccine. She thinks it needs to be discussed during Citizenship lessons along with sex education, relationships, pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

    Delilah took part in the HPV vaccination programme for girls aged 12 to 13 years in school year 8. Delilah said that, during school assembly, a nurse talked about the aims of the vaccination programme. Delilah thinks that more information is needed for girls her age about HPV, cervical cancer and sexual health.

    Paula took part in the HPV vaccination programme in school year 8 for girls aged 12 to 13. A nurse during school assembly provided information about HPV and the vaccination programme but Paula thinks that more information is needed to build upon what has been learned in assembly about HPV, cervical cancer and sexual health in general.

    Isabella received the HPV vaccine in Year 8, aged 14 as part of the National HPV Vaccination Programme for girls aged 14-18. A nurse talked during school assembly about HPV and the vaccination programme. But Isabella feels that an early school assembly may not be the best place and time to provide sexual health information as young people may be tired and not very attentive to what has been said.

    For the last three years Hannah has used the combined pill and hasn't had any problems with it. Now she is considering long term contraception; the three years implant. She has discussed this with her GP and a Family Planning nurse who is a friend of the family.
