Vicky - Interview 15

Vicky was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2007. She had a neuroendocrine tumour which is rare. She had a Whipple's operation and then radiofrequency ablation to treat small lesions in her liver. She feels well but knows the lesions may increase in size.

    In 2005 John was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He had a Whipple's operation, which was followed by chemotherapy. In 2009 John was told that he had cancer in both his lungs. He is not having much treatment at the moment and his pain is well controlled.

    John was a shipwright before he retired in 2007 due to ill health. He is married and has two adult children. Ethnic background/Nationality: White Scottish.

    May was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2008. She had a Whipple's operation. She gets very tired at times and has bowel problems and has lost a lot of weight but she is still well enough to go out. She loves walking with her dogs.

  • Fred - Interview 38

    In 2009 Fred was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He had a Whipple's operation and is still recovering. He has developed a hernia on the site of the incision. He has a positive outlook and hopes that soon he will be well enough to play golf and swim again.

  • Carol - Interview 37

    Carol was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2008. She had a pyloric preserving pancreatico-duodenectomy and cholescystecomy followed by chemotherapy. Now she feels well. Her blood markers are rising but scans have not revealed a recurrence.

    In 2000 Peter was diagnosed with a very rare form of pancreatic cancer, a neuroendocrine tumour. He had chemotherapy followed by a distal pancreatectomy, splenectomy, and removal of tumour from portal vein. Since then he has been well.

    Tony was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in December 2009. In February 2010 he had a Whipple's operation. Since then he has been having chemotherapy. Apart from some abdominal pain, he feels well and enjoys life.

  • Hamish - Interview 34

    Hamish was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2006. He had a Whipple's operation, then chemotherapy. His quality of life has been good but the cancer has come back in an area near the pancreas. He is about to start more chemotherapy.

  • Davinder - Interview 23

    Davinder was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2009. She had a distal pancreatectomy to remove the tumour, which was in the tail of the pancreas. She did not need any other treatment. She still has some abdominal discomfort, but is slowly recovering.

    Davinder was a caterer, but is now retired. She does voluntary work with Asian Radio. She is divorced, and has one daughter. Ethnic background/ nationality: Indian.

    Ann was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in May 2007. She had a Whipple's operation and then chemotherapy. Ann recovered and was incredibly well for two years. Then symptoms returned and a scan showed the cancer had come back with secondary tumours in her lungs.
