Hamish - Interview 34

Hamish was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2006. He had a Whipple's operation, then chemotherapy. His quality of life has been good but the cancer has come back in an area near the pancreas. He is about to start more chemotherapy.

    Adrian was diagnosed a year ago after having pain and sickness mistaken for Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) by the GP. Chemotherapy and a vaccine treatment didnt stop the cancer growing, so all further care has been palliative.

  • Theadora - Interview 25

    Theadora's mother developed jaundice in 2004. After doctors diagnosed pancreatic cancer she had chemotherapy, which continued intermittently almost until she died in 2007. She found complementary therapies, such as reiki, helpful and changed her diet.

    In 2007 Simon's wife was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She was aged 39. She started the TeloVac trial. The chemotherapy was effective but the vaccine was not. She had more chemotherapy and also complementary therapies. She died peacefully in 2009.

    Hugh's mother was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in early 2000. She had a Whipple's operation and then weekly chemotherapy for six months. In 2001 she became ill again and tests showed that the cancer had spread. She died peacefully in July 2001.

    Diagnosed with cancer of the pancreas in 2001, followed by a laparotomy, a gastrojejunostomy and then chemotherapy. After having had some chemotherapy he decided to try an alternative therapy, apricot seeds.

  • Bob - Interview 29

    Bob was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2007. The surgeon had hoped to do a Whipple's procedure but this was impossible because of the position of the tumour. Bob has had chemotherapy and has taken part in clinical trials. He feels quite well but tired.

    In July 2006 David's wife, Fiona, was aged 40. It was a shock when she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She had chemotherapy, which was not effective. She also tried alternative therapies. She died in December 2006. Her death was 'largely peaceful'.

    Ben was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2008. It was not possible to do a Whipple's operation so Ben took part in a clinical trial called the TeloVac trial. He had vaccine injections and chemotherapy for about a year. Now he is just having chemotherapy. He feels tired.

    In March 2010 Phil was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. After a liver biopsy, doctors found that the cancer had spread to his liver. Phil is having chemotherapy and was due to start vaccine injections as part of a clinical trial called the TeloVac trial. He feels well but tired.
