In 1999, Frances was diagnosed with breast cancer, and underwent a mastectomy and breast reconstruction. She is now 10 years post-diagnosis.

Wendy - Interview 03
Wendy was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1993, and underwent a lumpectomy and radiotherapy. She is now 16 years post-diagnosis.
Wendy is a semi-retired hotelier. She is married and has two grown up children. Ethnic Background: White British.
Janet - Interview 04
Janet was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2003, and underwent an ileostomy, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. She was diagnosed with dermatomyositis following her cancer.
Janet is a part-time charity worker and divorced. Ethnic Background: White British.
Interview 06
She is eight years past a diagnosis of breast cancer. She received a mastectomy and five years of treatment with tamoxifen. She received counselling to help her through cancer and depression, but now feels that cancer is behind her.
She volunteers for a local cancer charity that helped her through her cancer. She is widowed. Ethnic Background: White British.
Christopher - Interview 07
Christopher is five years past a diagnosis of prostate cancer. He had an operation to have his prostate removed, which led to a long-term change to his sex life. However, cancer is not something he thinks about anymore, and he can see some positives to the experience now that he is through it.
Christopher is a printer. He is married with two sons.
Vic - Interview 08
Vic was diagnosed with colorectal cancer, and received a permanent ileostomy. He now considers himself cured, and feels that diabetes is a more important health issue nowadays.
Vic is a colorectal cancer survivor, with one daughter. He is retired.
Beverley - Interview 10
Beverley was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2002. She received a mastectomy, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and hormone therapy. Her surgery has left her with ongoing pain.
Beverley is married with two children. Ethnic Background: White British.
Diane - Interview 11
Diane was diagnosed with breast cancer and received a lumpectomy, radiotherapy and hormone therapy. She experienced extreme tiredness for a few years after her diagnosis but feels back to normal now. She thinks that her cancer has affected her family just as much as it has affected her.

Norma - Interview 12
Norma was diagnosed with colorectal cancer, and received surgery and chemotherapy. She had a temporary ileostomy which was reversed.
Norma is a smoking cessation advisor. She is married with two children. Ethnic Background: White British.
Claire - Interview 14
Claire was diagnosed with Hodgkin's disease when she was 16 and 22, and more recently with colorectal surgery 6 years ago. She received surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy for her Hodgkin's disease, and surgery for bowel cancer.
Claire is a marketing manager, and lives with her partner. Background: White British.
