Jeff Z

Jeff was diagnosed with gout 36 years ago. He has had attacks in his ankles, toes, wrists and elbow, and manages them by taking naproxen. Jeff feels that he has learnt to live with gout. He has had three attacks in the last 12 months.

    Jeff experienced his first attack of gout when he was on holiday abroad in 2012 and has had three further attacks since then. He wanted to avoid long-term medication if possible, and hopes that the changes he has made to his diet will stop him from getting attacks in the future.

    Eric first experienced gout in 1986 at the age of 60, when he was on holiday. Eric has continued to get attacks of gout in his feet every few months. He takes colchicine when he has an attack. Eric has had three attacks in the last 12 months.

    Simon has had four attacks of gout. He was prescribed various medications, but experienced side effects from taking indometacin. He found naproxen to be most effective in treating an attack. Simon believes his attacks were triggered by certain foods.

    Jeff's first attack of gout occurred while he was abroad on holiday. He has had attacks in his foot and knee. Jeff takes 300mg allopurinol every day. He occasionally gets attacks, mainly when on holiday, and manages these by taking indometacin tablets.

    Alan and his wife, Sue, have both had gout. Alan gets attacks around three times a year, and manages these by taking colchicine. Gout usually affects the joints in his foot, but he has also had attacks in his knee.

    Peter was diagnosed with gout in 1993. He was prescribed allopurinol which he still takes every day. Peter believes that gout has not affected his life at all, and has experienced no symptoms in the last 20 years.
