Mike

Although Mike's wife (Joanna - Interview 07) had caesarean with her first baby, they were advised she could try for a natural birth. Jo went into labour at home, 9 days overdue. A searing pain developed. She had had a uterine rupture which was undiscovered. Their baby died in utero.

  • Lisa

    Lisa's was a high risk pregnancy due to osteogenisis imperfecta and symphysis pubis dysfunction. After a long labour her baby was born safely, but she then started to haemorrhage. Doctors were unable to stop the bleeding and performed an emergency hysterectomy to save Lisa's life.

    John's partner (Lisa - Interview 03) had a high-risk pregnancy. After a long labour, their baby daughter was born safely, but Lisa then haemorrhaged. Doctors were unable to stop the bleeding and had to perform an emergency hysterectomy to save her life.

    Alison had a very straightforward pregnancy with her first child. She had an emergency caesarean, and her son was born healthy and strong. However, Alison haemorrhaged as her uterus refused to contract. The doctors were forced to perform a hysterectomy to save Alison's life.

    Joanna's first daughter was delivered by caesarean and she was told she could try a vaginal birth after caesarean (VBAC). She went into labour at home, 9 days overdue. She had a uterine rupture which was undiscovered. Her baby died in utero and was delivered during surgery to stop the haemorrhage.

    Jo was expecting her first child. Three weeks before her due date she started to bleed and called an ambulance. She had suffered a placental abruption. On arrival at hospital she had an emergency caesarian to deliver her son.

    At 32 weeks through her third pregnancy, Rob's wife was diagnosed with placenta praevia and was hospitalized for the rest of her pregnancy. During a planned caesarean Rob's wife haemorrhaged and doctors performed a hysterectomy to save her life. Their baby was taken into special care.

    Karen was expecting her second son. After a healthy pregnancy she went into labour, two weeks overdue. When the baby's heartbeat became irregular doctors performed an emergency caesarean. Karen started to haemorrhage. Doctors were unable to stop the bleeding and finally decided a hysterectomy was necessary.
