Keith & Pat ' Interview 29

Last August it was discovered that Keith's wife Pat had a terminal brain tumour. Pat spent some time in a hospice and then returned home, where Keith cared for her. Pat died in November with her family around her.

    In July 2006 David's wife Fiona, who was 40, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, which was a shock. She had chemotherapy, which was not effective. She also tried alternative therapies. She died in December 2006. Her death was "largely peaceful".

    In 2007 Simon's wife was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She was aged 39. She started the TeloVac trial. The chemotherapy was effective but the vaccine was not. She had more chemotherapy and also complementary therapies. She died peacefully in 2009.

    Victoria's husband Hugh has mesothelioma, which is a rare form of cancer normally caused from exposure to asbestos. In Hugh's case a tumour has developed in the space between his lungs and rib cage.

  • Maggie & Donald ' Interview 01

    Maggie gave up work to care full time for Donald. Donald, aged 71 years, a retired civil engineer was diagnosed with a brain tumour. Donald died in November 2009 and Maggie is starting to adjust to a life on her own. She is looking at training for a career change in the future.

    Janet was able to fit her work around supporting and caring for her wife Chris, who was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in May 2008. Chris died in February 2010, and Janet is currently struggling to come to terms with her loss.

    Linda has been diagnosed with a rare cancer and Brian supports her cancer journey by attending hospital appointments and support groups with her, and also helping around the house. Brian enjoys running; it is a time for taking care of himself and for reflection.

    David was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a rare form of cancer, 7 years ago and is currently undergoing further treatment. Lesley finds caring very emotionally draining. She sees her role as helping David to control his disease.
