Interview 12

Diagnosed in 2003 with a brain tumour (ependynoma). Treatment was surgery that completely removed the tumour, and 30 sessions of radiotherapy. In remission and under no medications.

    Diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma (malignant bone tumour) in May 2004. His treatment consists of 10 to 14 courses of chemotherapy, surgery and possible radiotherapy. Treatment at time of interview: chemotherapy.

    Diagnosed with a malignant brain tumour (anaplastic germinoma); his treatment consisted of six weeks of radiotherapy to his head, speech therapy, physiotherapy and occupational therapy. In remission.

    Diagnosed in 2002 with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. Her chemotherapy treatment lasted for 2 and a half years. Drugs were given to her through her Hickman line and orally. On remission since May 2004.

    Single; lives at home with her father. Did not go back to school during or after treatment; looking for work.

    Diagnosed in 2001 with Stage II, Hodgkin's lymphoma. He had six blocks of chemotherapy over six months. He had a Hickman line and went into hospital twice a month to get his treatment. In remission since 2002.

    Diagnosed in February 2001 with high grade, stage one non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Treatment was 18 weeks of chemotherapy; treatment changed after second biopsy and lasted 18 months. In remission since 2002.

    Diagnosed 1996 with stage IV, Burkitt's lymphoma, a type of Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. He received chemotherapy as an inpatient for five months, followed by 15 sessions of radiotherapy. In remission.

    Pharmacologist; single; no children; lives with his parents. After his treatment he went to do a pharmacy degree and wants to work in a Teenage Cancer unit.

    Diagnosed in 2001 with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. Further tests revealed that he had the Philadelphia chromosome. Treatment: chemotherapy, radiotherapy and a bone marrow transplant. In remission since 2001.

    Diagnosed in 2000 with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. Treatment consisted of chemotherapy (intravenous and in tablet form), intrathecal chemotherapy, aspariganese injections, steroids. His treatment lasted more that 3 years. In remission.

    Diagnosed in 2001 with a brain tumour (germinoma); surgeries: third ventriclostomy, two shunts and a replacement valve; 25 sessions of radiotherapy and physiotherapy. In remission, no medication.
