    Krista had very rapid hair loss from her scalp, arms and eyebrows which lasted for about 4 months. She wore a wig and worried that her young daughter wouldn't recognise her. Krista's hair has now regrown and her confidence is slowly increasing.

She uses a topical steroid solution, although thinks that being emotionally settled helps her hair regrow too. The impact on hair styling, including for horse riding, is a key concern for Becky.

    Beth has had different kinds of alopecia areata for most of her life. She found it most difficult to lose all her hair, including eyelashes, at the age of 20. Beth describes her feelings about having alopecia as involving both peaks and troughs.

    (Text only clips) Imogen has had alopecia since she was 7. Her mum found some bald patches on her scalp and the rest of her hair fell out within two weeks. Imogen was offered steroids by doctors but decided against them, choosing instead to try aloe vera products.

    (Text only clips) Laurel has had alopecia areata for 2 and a half years. Alopecia impacted on her confidence as she feels less pretty. Laurel recently shaved her head to fundraise for alopecia. This received local publicity which has taken the pressure off her to hide her hair loss.

    Rosie has alopecia universalis. She had rapid hair loss from her scalp in her first year at secondary school. This was quickly followed by the loss of other body hair. She has tried steroid treatments but found that topical immunotherapy treatment with DPCP (diphenylcyclopropenone) is most effective.
