Bernadette's youngest son first self-harmed when he was 21 years old. He has not received any treatment for this from mental health services, and Bernadette has had no support herself.

Debbie's elder daughter started self-harming when she was about 9 years old. She developed an eating disorder and has been an inpatient, but is now improving with dialectical behaviour therapy. Debbie is positive about the future.

Jim and his wife/partner discovered that their 14 year old daughter was self-harming a few months after she was diagnosed with an eating disorder. She is receiving treatment, compulsorily, but the disease is having a huge impact on all their lives.
