Francesca – Interview 13

Francesca started experiencing depression when she was about 10 ' she was badly bullied in school and a young carer. Francesca starting doing solvents and other forms of self-harm and has also been suicidal. She's also been hearing negative voices. When she stayed in a psychiatric unit, she met 2 girls who've been really close friends since. Francesca says she can't understand people who criticise those who have mental health problems. Sarah – Interview 28

Sarah is 17 and works as a sales assistant. Sarah says her problems started when she was badly bullied in comprehensive school, although she's struggled with low self esteem ever since she can remember. Sarah's gotten a lot of help from young adults group counselling service and psychotherapy and says that since, she's been much more able to cope with life and its lows. Sarah also enjoys doing art, travelling and getting out and about. (White British).

Sophie – Interview 44

Sophie took part in a randomised controlled trial to assess the value of an intervention for use by diabetes clinicians to help young people self-manage their diabetes and other long term health conditions. Sophie enjoyed taking part in the trial and would consider other similar trials in the future.
