Marina

    Adrian came off his motorbike in 2001 and sustained a traumatic brain injury. He has no memory of the crash or the initial stages of his recovery and rehabilitation. He has successfully learned to walk and talk again, but has some memory problems.

  • Nick Y

    Nick was cycling home from a shopping centre one evening when he had his injury. A bus ran over his ankle and foot. The damage was extensive, so he had to have the lower part of his leg amputated below the knee. This was not Nick's first experience of a life-changing injury; his son, Jamie (Interview 34) sustained a traumatic brain injury in a road traffic collision.

    As a hobby, Nick enjoyed racing motorbikes. He was on a track in Spain when he came off his motorbike and broke his neck. He is now a quadriplegic, paralysed from the chest down.

  • Bill and Catherine

    Bill was involved in a road traffic collision 12 years ago. As a result of his injuries, his leg was amputated above the knee. Bill felt it was important to include Catherine in re-telling the story of his injury because she played a crucial part in his recovery.

    Bill, a retired police sergeant, and his wife Catherine, a retired staff nurse, are married and have two children, aged 19 and 22. Ethnic background’ White British & White British/Irish.
