Fenella

    Stephen has been a PPI representative and a member of a teenage and young adult clinical studies group for about nine months. He is particularly interested in cancer research since he was diagnosed with colorectal cancer when he was 15.

    Dave became involved in PPI after his parents were both diagnosed with cancer. He works with various PPI groups at local and national level. He primarily works in lung cancer research.

  • David Z

    Following his retirement, David participated in a focus group study to evaluate the experience of stroke survivors and their carers. He became interested in PPI in December 2010 after receiving an online advertisement inviting the public with relevant experience to apply to become lay members of the Stroke Research Network Clinical Studies Group or the Stoke Association Lay Members Panels.

  • Roger A

    Roger became involved in PPI in 2006 when his wife died from Motor Neurone Disease (MND). He was keen to help other people who shared similar experiences and felt that becoming involved in research was the best way to do this.

  • Kath

    Kath has been involved in PPI for 11 years. They got involved after her son died. They had been caring for him for 20 years. Kath's extensive involvement in PPI includes reviewing funding proposals for the National Institute for Health Research and Research for Patient Benefit. They are a member of the Collaboration for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care (CLARHC) for the South West Peninsula, through which they encourage patients and members of the public to suggest ideas for research.

    Beryl has been a PPI volunteer for two years. Her involvement started when her daughter had cancer and she became her carer. She is now part of a voluntary group developing patient information materials for clinical research.
