Interview 33

Testicular cancer (teratoma) and secondary tumours diagnosed in 1994. Orchidectomy and 5 cycles of chemotherapy. In February 1995 major surgery to remove a secondary tumour in the abdomen, near to the spine.

    He was diagnosed with malignant ependynoma in 1994. Treatment consisted of chemotherapy followed by six weeks of radiotherapy to the head and spine. It happened eleven years ago.

    Diagnosed with Burkitt's Lymphoma in 2004. Treatment chemotherapy and, one intra-thecal chemotherapy. Stayed in hospital for the duration of his treatment; nine week. Currently in remission.

    Single, no children; lives with parents worked as a welder before diagnosis. He now works in the same company but doing less heavy work.

    Diagnosed in 2003 with ganglio neuroblastoma. Treatment: surgery. Does not need further treatment but has regular catecholamine tests every three months and CT scans every six months.

    Dance teacher; single; no children; lives at home with her parents and siblings. Plans to do an MSc in dance therapy and wants to work with oncology patients.

    Diagnosed in 1998 with two brain tumours (germanomas). Treatments: surgery (biopsy, craniotomy, shunt fitted, replacement of valve to shunt). Thirty radiotherapy sessions. Lifelong hormone replacement therapy. In remission.

    Diagnosed with osteosarcoma in 1997. Treatment: six months chemotherapy; surgery to remove the tumour and have a metal knee put in and a lengthy period of physiotherapy. Cured.

    Diagnosed in 2003 with a brain tumour (ependynoma). Treatment was surgery that completely removed the tumour, and 30 sessions of radiotherapy. In remission and under no medications.

    Diagnosed in 2000 with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. Treatment consisted of chemotherapy (intravenous and in tablet form), intrathecal chemotherapy, aspariganese injections, steroids. His treatment lasted more that 3 years. In remission.

    Diagnosed in 2001 with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. Further tests revealed that he had the Philadelphia chromosome. Treatment: chemotherapy, radiotherapy and a bone marrow transplant. In remission since 2001.
