Eric - Interview 05

Diagnosed with breast cancer in 2001. He had a mastectomy and 5 or 6 lymph nodes removed. He then had chemotherapy over 6 months, with radiotherapy on 15 days halfway through his treatment. He then had tamoxifen. Later had Arimadex for a short time.

    Diagnosed with breast cancer in 2003. He had a full mastectomy, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy. He stopped taking tamoxifen after two years because of the side effects that he experienced.

    Bob was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2003. He had surgery but did not need to have chemotherapy or radiotherapy because it was diagnosed early. He is also diabetic and had trouble with his wound after surgery.

    Ben was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2003 and had surgery and tamoxifen which he discontinued after having a deep vein thrombosis. Had a second diagnosis of breast cancer in 2006 and further surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

    Dan was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006. He had a mastectomy, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, Herceptin and tamoxifen. He did not want chemotherapy but was told he had to have chemotherapy to be eligible for Herceptin.

    After having a lot of contact with mental health services over the years, John was diagnosed with mild Asperger syndrome aged 45. Previous employment has proved problematic for John and he feels employers should be more aware of Asperger syndrome.

    Mike had a small episode one evening where he found himself unable to speak for a short while. As it was out of surgery hours he saw a locum GP who advised him to go home and see his doctor the next day, even though he had very high blood pressure. However, the next morning he had a more serious episode which was diagnosed as a stroke. He is fully recovered now, although he finds sometimes he has some short term memory loss, and is speech is slightly slurred at times.

    Rich was on his way to his car when he tripped. When he got into his car he found that he had no feeling in his left leg and arm. He contacted his daughter for help, and she called for ambulance. He was diagnosed with a mini stroke and admitted to hospital for several weeks. After several weeks he regained his mobility fully and has had no further episodes since then.
