Interview 147

Testicular cancer (teratoma) diagnosed in 1997. Orchidectomy, followed by active monitoring (surveillance). Then secondary tumour found in the spermatic cord. Surgery to remove the tumour and 4 cycles of chemotherapy, each cycle with 7 days in hospital and 14 days at home.

    In 1996, a lump was found at top of one leg. A biopsy of the lump led to a diagnosis of testicular cancer (seminoma). Chemotherapy for three months. Had 4 days in hospital for each cycle of chemotherapy.

    Mantle Cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma was diagnosed in 1999 after she found a lump in her thigh. She was treated with chemotherapy and rituximab. She is in remission.

    Testicular cancer (seminoma) diagnosed in 1996, with secondary tumours in the abdomen. Orchidectomy, followed by 4 months of chemotherapy (each cycle over three weeks with one week in hospital, then 2 weeks at home), and 4 weeks (20 treatments) of radiotherapy.

    Ovarian cancer diagnosed in 1997 following abdominal pain, tiredness and bloating. Treated with bowel surgery then surgical removal of ovaries and womb, and chemotherapy. Recurrences treated with chemotherapy, accompanied by further bowel surgery.

    Diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006, after he noticed some itchiness in his nipple which later started to bleed. Had a mastectomy and was relieved that he did not need chemotherapy or radiotherapy. He took tamoxifen for five years. He had some problems with lymphoedema after his surgery.

    Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma diagnosed in 1998 after shoulder pain and finding a lump. Two years of watchful waiting then three bouts of drug treatment, with short remissions in between. Now in longer remission after receiving radiolabelled monoclonal antibody.

    Testicular cancer (teratoma) diagnosed in 1995; orchidectomy. Secondary tumours in liver, lungs and abdomen; 10 weeks chemotherapy; then a higher dose of chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant; in 1997 recurrence of a secondary tumour in the neck, which was surgically removed.
