Glynis - Interview 16

Glynis had a breast cancer removed by lumpectomy. She also had chemotherapy and radiotherapy. She was prescribed hormone therapy but stopped taking it because it made her feel ill. She used complementary therapies and believes they have helped her recovery and prevented the cancer returning.

    Ken was diagnosed with prostate cancer five years ago, and was told that it was terminal. He still receives hormone injections every three months for treatment. He feels that cancer hasn't affected him greatly in the long-term.

  • Louise - Interview 18

    Louise was diagnosed with breast cancer seven years ago, and received a mastectomy, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and hormone treatment. The hormone treatment caused some long-term effects. She was unable to work through her treatment and sometimes still experiences fatigue and lack of energy.

    Ray is now twelve years past his diagnosis of prostate cancer. He is still receiving hormone implants every three months as treatment. He is still experiencing long-term bladder problems as a result of radiotherapy treatment.

    Thomas was diagnosed with colorectal cancer in 1999. He feels that he is more appreciative of life following his cancer diagnosis. He still has to be careful with what he eats, but doesn't worry about cancer on a day to day basis.

  • Sandra - Interview 21

    Sandra was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2003, and received surgery, radiotherapy and hormone treatment. She had lots of negative side effects from the tamoxifen, and feels that there was a lack of aftercare following her diagnosis.

  • Alan - Interview 22

    Alan had bowel cancer in 2003, and received radiotherapy, chemotherapy and surgery. He had to have a hip replacement because his hip was weakened by the radiotherapy. Although he had lots of setbacks, he feels like things are getting back to normal. He does feel more emotional nowadays.

    David had bowel cancer ten years ago, and received chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery. He had a liver recurrence, and received a liver resection. He doesn't worry about cancer on a day to day basis.

    Pauline had bowel cancer diagnosed in 1991. She received surgery and chemotherapy, and had a secondary liver cancer which was successfully treated. For her, cancer is something to deal with and get over, and doesn't think about it much nowadays.

    Olivia was diagnosed with breast cancer 17 years ago, but it doesn't affect her life nowadays. She has moved on from it and doesn't think about it that often.
