Matt & Donna

Matt and Donna's son was born by caesarean. He was fine at first, but then developed digestive problems. Tests revealed he had Hirschsprung's disease*. He had surgery at 7 weeks, and was 18 weeks old at the time of the interview.

    When Joe was pregnant with her third child her daughter was diagnosed with an exomphalos* at her 12 week scan. After she was born she was also found to need heart surgery for a rare condition. She was 16 months old at the time of the interview.

    Leanne's daughter was born naturally and all seemed well. But it soon because clear she was not feeding well. She was diagnosed with Hirschsprung's disease* and had surgery on her bowel when she was 8 weeks old.

  • Sally-Anne & Simon

    When Sally-Anne was pregnant with her first son aged 20, scans revealed he had an exomphalos*. He had surgery when he was a few days old, which was successful. But he is now 13 and still has digestion problems.

  • Louise

    Louise was expecting her first babies, twin boys. At the 20 week scan, one of her babies was diagnosed with a congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH)*. He had surgery and is now 5 years old.

    Mary was expecting her first child. He was born by emergency caesarean at 37 weeks and needed abdominal surgery when he was a few days old.

  • Alison & Martin

    Their son was diagnosed with exomphalos* during a routine scan in pregnancy when Alison was aged 25. He is now twenty-six years old and Alison reflects back on their experiences.

    Alison is aged 51 and married with one daughter and one son. Her husband Martin, aged 55 is a football coach.

  • Alix & Antonio

    Alix was expecting her first child. He was born after a very long labour at 40+ weeks. It was discovered that he had a congenital diaphragmatic hernia for which he needed surgery.

    Alix is aged 33 and a national account manager. Antonio is aged 35. They are married with one son. She is from Northern Ireland.

  • Nicky

    Nicky was expecting her first baby. He was born very early, aged 24 weeks and developed complications that required bowel surgery.
