Lexi's grandfather died of MND, but it wasn't until her mother was diagnosed more recently that Lexi was told she could be affected in the future. Lexi has decided not to seek pre-symptomatic genetic testing, and instead prefers to make the most of life.

John is retired, and previously worked as a project manager in IT. John has a long-term partner. Ethnicity: white British. John was diagnosed with MND in March 2018. Although his mother previously had the disease, he did not initially think it could be hereditary. John feels that knowing what to expect has helped him prepare for the future.

Karen is 59 and has one adult child. She is retired, but previously worked as head of service in children's social care. Ethnicity: white British. Karen became aware of inherited MND in her family after her mother and uncle were diagnosed. Karen has decided not to have pre-symptomatic genetic testing, though has made positive changes to her life to make the most of each day.

Catrin caught Covid in September 2021 after returning to university. Prior to this she has been studying online from her parents; home. Fatigue was one of her main symptoms.

She works for the council as a registrar and is also doing a part-time Masters course. June ordered Covid tests online after feeling unwell in December 2020, which confirmed that she had been infected. As June's symptoms worsened, she called NHS 111 and her GP, who recommended calling an ambulance. A paramedic told her that she would be alright to recover at home. June experienced symptoms of long Covid which lasted for several months.

Mr Eshaan caught Covid early in the pandemic in March 2020. He became so ill that paramedics had to be called. His wife was forced to make the decision on whether he should be admitted to hospital after being told by paramedics that if they admit him he may not come bac.

Initially, Stephen was keener about breastfeeding than his partner Holly, but will support whatever decision she makes once the baby is born. They are leaning towards breastfeeding, mainly because of the health benefits to the baby.
