Martina

Martina started experiencing pain after a car accident in 1997 and was diagnosed with fibromyalgia ten years later. She finds her local support group incredibly helpful, and over the years she has worked out how to manage her symptoms.

  • Morag

    Morag developed pains in her body and other symptoms about four or five years ago. She was diagnosed with fibromyalgia by her supportive GP later on. She tries to stay active with walking her dog, cycling with an electric bike and other exercises.

    Morag is 48. She lives with her husband and child together. She had to retire early as a police officer. Ethnicity: White Scottish

  • Julie

    Julie started experiencing extreme pain at 31. Many years later, after several referrals she was diagnosed with fibromyalgia at 45/46. Although she takes various medications, she is very frustrated as she still experiences extreme pain after 17 years.

    Julie is 48, single, and has long-standing disabilities. She teaches music part-time. Ethnicity: White English

    Martin was diagnosed with fibromyalgia at 28/29. After some difficult years, he feels now better able to manage his symptoms. He regularly attends a pain support group. Martin is keen to raise awareness about fibromyalgia, including in men.
