Dick & Di ' Interview 31

Dick's wife Di was diagnosed with motor neurone disease in 2004. His wife had died 6 months before his interview, aged 64.

    Wife Luise diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in 2004, after a year of weakness in her fingers and leg. Roger and his sons cared for Luise at home until her death in 2006.

    Her husband first noticed symptoms at the end of 2005 and was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease. A ventilator greatly improved his energy levels for nearly a year. He had a PEG fitted but does not yet use it for feeding.

    Jane's husband George was diagnosed with motor neurone disease in 2007. Jane quit her job and became his full-time carer. His MND was fast progressing and he died just 9 months after the diagnosis.

    Anne's husband Jim has progressive supranuclear palsy, which is a degenerative disease. Since his diagnosis he has gradually deteriorated to the point where he is now cared for in a nursing home.

    Jacqui's husband Terry was diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (previously known as emphysema) 16 years ago. As his condition worsened Jacqui provided full-time care, which she did for the last 10 years of his life. Terry eventually died peacefully with his family around him.
