Dan - Interview 01

Dan was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006. He had a mastectomy, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, Herceptin and tamoxifen. He did not want chemotherapy but was told he had to have chemotherapy to be eligible for Herceptin.

  • HGV King - Interview 06

    HGV King was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007. He had a mastectomy and radiotherapy. He was offered reconstructive surgery or a tattooed nipple but chose to have neither. He then had tamoxifen.

    HGV King is a lorry driver. He is single, and has a young daughter and 4 adult children. Ethnic background’ White British (English).

  • Bill - Interview 23

    Was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2001. Had a mastectomy and lymph nodes removed, then chemotherapy, tamoxifen and Arimidex (which he later took with testosterone replacement, Nebido). He later developed itching in his other nipple and had a second mastectomy in 2002.

    Bill is a retired education guidance advisor. He is married and has 3 adult children. Ethnic background’ White Scottish.

  • Mohammad - Interview 28

    Diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006, after he noticed some itchiness in his nipple which later started to bleed. Had a mastectomy and was relieved that he did not need chemotherapy or radiotherapy. He took tamoxifen for five years. He had some problems with lymphoedema after his surgery.

    Mohammad was a machine operator in the plastics industry. He is currently unable to work due to illness. He is married and has 4 children. Ethnic background’ Pakistani.

  • Tom - Interview 29

    Diagnosed with breast cancer in his right breast in 2007. He had a radical mastectomy and ancillary node clearance, followed by preventive chemotherapy, radiotherapy, Herceptin and tamoxifen. In consultation with his oncologist, he discontinued taking tamoxifen because of extreme sleepiness and lethargy. He is now taking Arimidex.
