Introducing Scrapbooks

Today we’re excited to be launching a new feature that will change the way our site is used and make our content even more valuable. It’s called Scrapbooks. The concept may be familiar to those of you who use Pinterest; basically Scrapbooks allows you to save and share collections of videos or pages that interest you, from across the site. Scrapbooks lets you:

  • – Collect videos and pages in one place for your future reference
  • – Add an image, description and keywords
  • – Share your Scrapbooks with friends, family and colleagues
  • – Make your Scrapbooks public or keep them private
  • – Browse and look at scrapbooks other people have made

Why Scrapbooks?
At present, all of the information on Healthtalkonline.org is organised by health condition or issue (e.g. Pancreatic Cancer, Drugs and Alcohol and Autism). However, we know that within the 2,000 people, 20,000 videos and 5,000 pages on the site, there is a wealth of meaning and utility that hasn’t even occurred to us yet! Each and every story shared on our website may be of interest to different people for different reasons. Take this clip from our depression section:

This short clip could be added to scrapbooks about psychiatry, suicidal thoughts, patient-doctor relationships and more. I’m interested in the story of how having a puppy kept her from acting on her suicidal thoughts and have added the clip to my scrapbook about dogs and health. Now these clips are saved in one place so that I can refer back to them later and, by making this scrapbook publically available, this resource could help someone else as well.

Over time, we hope that Healthtalkonline.org’s Scrapbookers will show us new and exciting ways that our database can be re-categorised and used and help to create hundreds of new resources that everyone can benefit from.

Get involved by signing up for Scrapbooks today. Happy Scrapbooking!
