What you need to know
The videos and content on this website come from people who have been affected by a health issue. This means that the information:
- Is easy to understand
- Tells you what you need to know
- Is more reassuring than just the medical facts
Each section is divided up into pages to cover the important topics including things like ‘going to the doctor’, ‘effect on school or work’, ‘self-help’ and ‘money’. These aim to help you to find out what to expect and what help is available. If you find a person who particularly interests you, you can visit their individual profile page to get their full story.
You can trust what you see on the site; all of the interviews are with Oxford University researchers (link to info about the research?) and the information is checked by experts. We are accredited by the UK Department of Health’s Information Standard, a mark of good quality, reliable information about health and social care.
Get ready to talk to your doctor
This website can help you prepare for a visit to your doctor, nurse or specialist. Lots of people tell us that they feel more confident talking to their doctor and knowing what to ask after hearing others’ experiences of doctors or of different medications and treatments that are available.
‘I can now go to my surgeon’s appointment not feeling helpless and stupid. I can ask “proper” questions and get the right answers for me.’ – Fran

You’re not alone
For every issue we cover, we talk to 30-50 people who’ve all got a different story to tell. That’s 30-50 people who have gone through the same and hopefully at least one who you can really identify with.
‘It’s reassuring to know that there are other people out there, going through the same as me’ – Sophie
