Award-winning Art Exhibit features audio from Healthtalkonline

Audio from Healthtalkonline’s HIV section features in a competition-winning art piece exhibiting at Imperial College, London this week.

Dr. Dave Pao, an HIV doctor doing a PhD at the Royal College of Art in London, contacted us in May about using clips from our HIV project. Dave told us ‘I am building an installation art piece that looks at the disconnection between the medical point of view and the patient perspective. It is based on Leventhal’s Illness Representations of identity, cause, timeline, consequences and cure.’

Four 30 second audio clips were chosen to illustrate these 5 categories of the human response to illness. The clips which feature real people sharing their experiences of HIV, are played through a stethoscope.

The exhibition was organised by Artifact, a student-led project born in 2010 and hosted between students at Imperial College London and the Royal College of Art. Its aim is to foster informal dialogue between the scientists and artists working at these two prestigious colleges through a series of fun social events and lectures.

Dave contacted us yesterday to say that his piece had won Artifact’s 2014 competition which centres around the theme of identity. The piece is on display in the main foyer of Imperial College all this week from 8am-10pm

Congratulations Dave!
